Our main motive will be to learn
· What
is Rest?
· Why
to use Rest??
· What
we do with Rest???
Connecting your machine to a web services or web server
Now What is web services, it is nothing but the dynamic
server that provide you the information or data according to the need.
Web Server can also be thought as bunch of functions that
always return some or the other value in json or xml format depending upon the
parameter.
API is the process through which our device, local machine
connect with the web server and we specify our requirement and in accordingly,
we get a data.
Basically in REST API, we do basic CRUD operation on
Resource.
·
Create-POST
·
Read-GET
·
Update-PUT
·
Delete-DELETE
REST is nothing but Representation of resource i.e data
depending on the Request……
The Representation of resource will always be of two types……
·
JSON
·
XML
Now the url in REST api will always be made of three things.
If we skip any of the single thing, then it will be diffcult
for us to handle the info
REST API endpoint url+API method+parameter
REST API endpoint url is the pointer which act as address of
place where all the method are kept
Method is the unique function where a respective
functionality is placed
Parameter is the thing that is needed to take the input.
Application Programming Interface is used everywhere.
Whether it is flight booking, stock market, mutual funds, weather
detail, hotel detail and etc
So API is used everywhere and especially in Travel Transport
and Hospitality i.e. TTH domain, it is must to have API implementation and it through
testing is required.
API testing makes the code more reliable of the API
API testing occur at very initial level, level even when GUI
is not created and application as a whole is not prepared.
When the development team has created the API, it deploy the
API to server and tester can test the API with or without inputs.
These days, in AGILE world, we can’t wait for whole application
to be developed.
Also, at the end GUI testing doesn’t cover all the things
that need to be tested.
GUI testing doesn’t do the testing to that level at which
API testing is done
API testing mainly test the business layer of the application.
It never get concerned with the look and feel of UI.It will always focus on the logic and output that particular functionality produces by giving the desired input
