Certified Scrum Master

What is SCRUM?

Scrum is taking the problem and breaking into smaller chunks.
A Mechanism to optimize the value delivery system.
Scrum is drive the work in complex environment.
Complex environment is based on two factor, one is what needs to be done and second one is How to do it.
Scrum is a mechanism to guide changes.
Changes in Scrum is derived from two factor, one is effectiveness and another one is efficiency.
Scrum is continuous adaption cycle.
Scrum is a framework to work on complex problem.
 =================================================

What is Product Backlog?

The team list everything in TO DO list called product backlog.
Product Owner is the single person accountable for maintaining the product backlog.
Low Quality Backlog will lead to low quality final product.
No matter how good technical people,developer and technology you include, a low quality product backlog will lead to misfit final product.
A bad Product Owner will lead to bad Product Backlog and will lead to bad quality final product.
=================================================

What is Sprint Planning?

Collectively team select few of the top priority of work from product backlog.
 ================================================

What is Sprint Backlog?

Sprint Backlog is few of the task that team select from product backlog.
 =================================================

What is Sprint?

The item of sprint backlog are developed and delivered in a particular time frame called Sprint.
Sprint is heart of SCRUM.Sprint can be maximum period of one month.
The first activity that scrum team does during sprint is sprint planning event which will last for 8 hour for one month sprint.
Afterward, each day, the developer of the scrum team holds a daily scrum meeting and perform development work.
Daily Scrum meeting lasts at most 15 minute

At the end of each sprint, product increment is delivered, i.e website is up and running and another new functionality is added after every Sprint.

Team keep running the sprint and refining the product backlog and adding some customer request until the website has all the functionality and customer has no more requirement left or all the budget is exhausted.
================================================

What is Increment?

Increment is vertical delivery.
Increment is outcome of each sprint and it is reviewed during sprint review with scrum team and stakeholders.
Valuable or usable software that is prepared after every sprint is Increment.
During the future sprint , we build or enhance the increment of previous sprint.
So, Increment of past sprint is evolved in next sprint.
We could have multiple increment during each sprint.
=================================================

Who are developer?

Developer are the one who transform the idea contained in product backlog into value or usable product.
=================================================
Scrum prescribe event and accountability.

Scrum is composed of Five events

1)Sprint
2)Sprint Planning
3)Sprint Review-Inspecting the increment and adapting to product backlog.
Sprint review will last most for 4 hours for one month Sprint.
When Scrum team get along with stakeholder to discuss the product being developed ,including what was developed during the Sprint and its future adaptation.
4)Sprint Retrospective-It is about team continuous improvement.
It is about inspecting the Scrum Team processes and adapting them to deliver them efficiently.
It is about inspecting and adapting the Scrum Team itself.
Scrum team discuss on how to improve the way of working.
It focuses on making the Scrum team more effective.
Sprint Retrospective can go to maximum for 3 hours for one month Sprint.
5)Daily Scrum Meeting-15 minute events that happen daily.

Scrum is composed of three accountability

1)Product Owner-Single person accountable for managing the product backlog.
2)Developer- Who will do the product backlog task
3)Scrum Master-Who facilitate all the work
 =================================================

How Scrum works?

It starts with product backlog, which is all the work that has to be done and what fulfill the product goal.
Product backlog is maintained by Product owner, who ensure that top items are the most important one.
Afterward, we do a Sprint planning event,Scrum team craft the sprint goal,then developer select the product backlog item to be developed, forming the sprint backlog.

Sprint backlog also contains the increment
Developer conduct daily scrum to synchronize their work
During the sprint, the product backlog item meets the definition of done, an increment is born.
An increment is concrete stepping stone toward product goal.
At end of Sprint, Scrum team conduct two events, i.e Sprint review and Sprint retrospective.

Scrum Master accountable for sprint team effectiveness

This iterative process continues until work is done and it keep filter the product backlog.

TRADITIONAL(WATERFALL) VS AGILE

Waterfall approach is preparing a final plan and executing it.
DISADVANTAGE of this particular approach is in real world it is difficult to predict the end product as technologies are changing very frequently, our initial vision is very different from final one.
Waterfall can lead to a useless product when there is so much uncertainty of what to build and how to build.
Waterfall can be use to build bridge and building

Agile Approach is deliver something close to customer need in short cycle and incorporate the missing or new suggestion in coming cycles.
All the cycle have a fraction part of end product result.
Agile gives us a advantage of adjusting the vision of end product multiple times.
With the new technology changing environment, it is Agile which give us flexibility to see the end product multiple times.
We deliver new version, get our customer to use it , analyze the feedback and adjust again.
AGILE is responding to change.
Scrum is an AGILE framework.

To achieve AGILE framework, we need to be RAPID and LEAN.
Rapid means FAST and Lean is to remove waste
=================================================

How Scrum and Agile are connected?

Scrum is a way of implementing agility.
Scrum is build on top of AGILE.

Concept of Uncertainty

How uncertainty varies with time.
In starting of a product, the uncertainity is very high and it keep on decreasing as the product is toward the final shape.

The cone of uncertainty got its name from how we can visualize uncertainty using a 2D Cartesian coordinate system
The Y Axis is for variability in estimates or degree of error.
The more uncertainty involved in estimate , the higher its variability.
The variability can be used to modify our expectation regarding an estimate.

The worst case scenario is calculated by multiplying the estimate by the variability.
The best case scenario is calculated by dividing the estimate by variability.
The uncertainty of a product is due to more volatility,uncertainty, complexity and ambiguity.

What is Empiricism?

It is also called empirical process control theory.
3 important pillar are
  1. Inspect
  2. Adapt
  3. Transparency-Having a common standard so that all observer share a common understanding of what is being seen.In SCRUM, it is implemented in SPRINT PLANNING, DAILY SCRUM, SPRINT REVIEW and SPRINT RETROSPECTIVE.also, it is implemented in PRODUCT BACKLOG,SPRINT BACKLOG and INCREMENT. There are two important term in Transparency one is READY and other is DONE. Ready comes in place where product backlog items are concerned and Done comes in place where Increment comes into picture.One of the key job of SCRUM MASTER is to detect incomplete transparency by inspecting the artifacts, sensing patterns, listening closely to what it is said, and detecting differences between expected and real result.

What is SCRUM values?

  1. COMMITMENT
  2. COURAGE
  3. RESPECT
